Washington, D.C. – Congressman Darin LaHood (IL-18), Co-Chair of the Digital Trade Caucus, released the following statement on the European Union's decision to move forward with the Digital Markets Act (DMA).

"The European Union's decision to finalize the Digital Markets Act, which is specifically designed to mostly target American businesses and workers, despite serious concerns raised by bipartisan members of the House and Senate and the Administration, is deeply disappointing. These flawed regulations fail to address harmful actions by Chinese, Russian, and other foreign-owned tech companies that continue to engage in digital authoritarianism, surveillance regimes, and human rights violations. The DMA’s discriminatory policies are at odds with the fundamental principles of the World Trade Organization. The EU should instead work with the United States to develop any future rules governing the digital economy."

Congressman LaHood previously led a bipartisan letter to President Biden requesting the Administration intensify engagement with the EU and demand changes to the discriminatory aspects of the DMA.
