Washington, D.C. – Chairman Rob Bishop (R-UT) today recommended the appointment of Rep. Darin LaHood (IL-18) to serve as conferee to the House-Senate Highway Bill Conference Committee.

“I am proud to recommend Rep. LaHood to represent the Committee on Natural Resources on the highway bill conference committee,” Chairman Bishop stated. “He will advocate for measures to streamline provisions that impact our nation’s precious resources and updates infrastructure on both federal and tribal lands as the House and Senate finalize this 6-year legislative package.  I thank Rep. LaHood for representing the Committee and look forward to seeing the finished conference product.”

As a conferee, Congressman LaHood - appointed by Speaker Paul D. Ryan - will engage in resolving differences relevant to the House Committee on Natural Resources, between the House and Senate six-year surface transportation bills, which previously passed through each Chamber earlier this year.

"I am honored that Chairman Bishop has recommended me to represent the Committee on Natural Resources as the conference committee works to finalize the highway bill. I look forward to being able to serve in this rare capacity, especially after being elected to office less than 3 months ago,” said LaHood. "The opportunity to improve and reform our highway and transit programs by investing in our nation’s infrastructure is a tremendous step in the right direction for the safety and productivity of our country. Our vast transportation network is the backbone of our economy, making it critical that we provide long term certainty for states, localities, and businesses as repairs and upgrades to our airports, waterways, roads and bridges are planned and executed.”
