Washington D.C. – Congressman Darin LaHood (IL-18) called for swift passage of the United States-Mexico-Canada Trade Agreement (USMCA) and underscored the importance of this trade agreement for farmers, workers, and small businesses across Illinois at the House Ways and Means Committee hearing today with U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer.
“It concerns me that we haven’t started the clock and that Speaker Pelosi hasn’t brought this forth yet,” stated Rep. LaHood. “If you put politics aside and look at USMCA, this is good for workers, it’s good for jobs, and it’s good for the long-term economy of this country. USMCA is a win for Illinois and it’s time we get this critical agreement passed, so America can reap the benefits of trade with Mexico and Canada.”
Additionally, Rep. LaHood questioned Ambassador Lighthizer about ongoing trade dispute with China and highlighted the importance of holding the Chinese accountable for their bad trade practices.
