PEORIA (WEEK) -- Congressman Darin LaHood expressed his commitment to supporting organizations helping those in need during a visit to Neighborhood House on Monday.

The congressman met with the team behind Meals on Wheels. The group delivers meals in Peoria and parts of Tazewell County to people who can't prepare their own food.

Meals on Wheels did not stop delivering, even at the height of the pandemic. All while their demand doubled.

"The money that comes to the Department of Aging from the federal government filters down here to Meals on Wheels...they could not run that program without that federal funding. We will continue to support that funding until the need goes away," said LaHood.

LaHood said he toured the facility to make sure when he returns to Washington, other lawmakers can understand the importance of organizations that keep people fed.
