BLOOMINGTON – U.S. Rep. Darin LaHood (R-Peoria) is pushing a bill to undo a rule created by the Environmental Protection Agency and Obama administration called the Waters of the U.S.
LaHood explained this rule would have a “drastic effect” on farmers if it goes into effect.
“This would affect every farm in my district,” said LaHood. “So if you have a puddle, a stream, a creek, on your river you would now have to comply with the Clean Water Act.”
LaHood added the rule doesn’t make sense and no one in his district thinks it makes sense.
“The administration is really shoving it down the throats of farmers and we’re trying to stop that from happening,” he said.
LaHood said he’s also working through the court system to stop the rule from going into effect.
