QUINCY (WGEM) -- 18th District Illinois Congressman (R) Darin LaHood made a stop in Quincy Thursday to talk with constituents.

One thing LaHood said he heard from many he talked with is the issue of finding people to fill open jobs in the area.

That's why LaHood said he wants to get more people off unemployment and back to work.

He said he believes that is the key to help struggling businesses that have often had to close early, limit hours, or close for stretches of days.

"I think the solution is you got to cut off the money. Look at what governors in many states Governor of Iowa, Governor of Missouri. They've refused the federal unemployment insurance money," said LaHood.

"And that's helped to bring back we also be ought to be incentivizing work a lot of states are also giving a bonus to come back to work,"

Here in Adams county for April, the unemployment rate was at around 4%, lower than the state average of 7.1% for April, which is slightly higher than the U.S. average for April of 5.7%.
