EAST PEORIA, IL (HOI) – Today is the first day of law enforcement appreciation week and police departments across the county are celebrating in their own ways.

Congressman Darin LaHood (R-Peoria) spent the morning with officers from the East Peoria Police Department.

They discussed the most important aspects of their job and new challenges they face such as cyber-theft. LaHood says this week is the best time to thank officers in your community.

“We sometimes take them for granted, but our public safety is first and foremost,” said LaHood. “It’s what our job as elected officials should be to make sure our law enforcement has the resources, they have the money that they need to do the job that they do.”

LaHood says it is also important to remember the hard work and dedication officers give back to their communities.
