Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Darin LaHood (IL-16) – Chairman of the House Ways and Means Subcommittee on Work and Welfare – praised the House Ways and Means Committee’s passage of the One, Big, Beautiful Bill.

“The House Ways and Means Committee voted to provide hardworking Americans, seniors, small businesses, and farmers with much-needed and immediate tax relief,” said Rep. LaHood. “For two years, Chairman Smith and Committee Republicans have been working tirelessly to craft a bill that will drive investments throughout our communities. This legislation delivers on the promises that Republicans and President Trump made to the American people, including no tax on tips, increasing the child tax credit, advancing research and development, and making the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act's historic tax cuts permanent. It is critical that Congress pass the One, Big, Beautiful Bill as soon as possible to give rocket fuel to the United States’ economy.”

Rep. LaHood’s Priorities Included in the Legislation:

Expanding and improving the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit

This bill would renew the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit and expand the reimbursement rate, increase the number of projects that can be built using private activity bonds, and accelerate the construction of much-needed low-income housing development in rural communities. These provisions were originally included as part of the Affordable Housing Credit Improvement Act, which Rep. LaHood introduced in April 2025.

Since he was elected to Congress, Rep. LaHood has been a strong advocate for addressing the shortage of affordable housing for the growing workforce throughout Illinois’ 16th Congressional District and across the country. Read the press release on his bill HERE.

Improving access to health savings

Ways and Means Republicans are committed to lowering the cost of healthcare for hardworking Americans and senior citizens. Rep. LaHood’s Health Savings for Families Act was included in this legislation, giving American families increased choices to save and afford healthcare costs through a health savings account and making these accounts more accessible for patients and families.

Tax fairness and relief for the beauty and salon industry

Rep. LaHood has long championed creating parity and extending the Federal Insurance Contribution Act (FICA) tip tax to salon and beauty service establishments. In April 2025, Rep. LaHood introduced the Small Business Tax Fairness and Compliance Simplification Act to level the playing field for beauty salons whose employees rely on tips for a large portion of their income. The One, Big, Beautiful Bill includes these legislative provisions and will provide immediate tax relief to these small businesses. Read his press release HERE.

Supporting farmers and the biofuels industry

Rural communities across the Midwest have seen the benefits of the 45Z Clean Fuel Production Credit through new job opportunities and increased markets. The bill extends this key tax credit through 2031, giving industry more incentives to grow and directly supporting farmers and the biofuel economy in Illinois’ 16th District.

Other Key Pieces of the Legislation:

  • Makes President Trump’s historic tax cuts permanent;
  • Delivers on President Trump’s priorities of no tax on tips, overtime pay, and car loan interest, and provides additional tax relief for seniors;
  • Locks in and boosts the doubled Child Tax Credit for more than 40 million families;
