Washington, D.C. – Congressman Darin LaHood (IL-16) voted today in favor of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which invests in our national defense, gives military members a 5.2% raise, provides our Armed Forces with the tools to counter growing global threats, and includes an amendment that supports Peoria's Air National Guard members.
“The FY24 NDAA will make America safer, give our men and women in uniform the resources they need and deserve, and send a clear message to our adversaries around the globe,” said Rep. LaHood. “As we face growing threats from China, Iran, Russia, North Korea, and other bad actors, Congress must invest in our Armed Forces and strengthen our national security. This bill makes certain that our military personnel are prepared with the resources, equipment, and support at home they need. It is a privilege to continue to support our brave men and women protecting and defending freedom and I am proud to support this bill.”
LaHood successfully advocated for the inclusion of an amendment to support Peoria's 182nd Airlift Wing. The 182nd Airlift Wing is set to lose its Tactical Air Control Parties (TACP) - teams tasked with carrying out special operations for the United States Air Force. Although the 182nd Airlift Wing has been promised a new Contingency Response Group (CRG) unit as a replacement, no CRGs have been assigned at this time and future leadership changes could threaten the agreement. The bipartisan amendment will commission a study on the cost of decommissioning TACP units throughout the country, highlighting the potential consequences of TACP closures.
