Washington, D.C. – At the first hearing for the House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party, Congressman Darin LaHood (IL-16) underscored the need to address China's manipulation of the global economy and the ways the CCP seeks to undermine American national security.
In his remarks, Rep. LaHood said, "What the CCP fears most is Republicans and Democrats working together to expose their malign activities. Over the last two years, I've been fortunate enough to serve on the Intelligence Committee. It's become more clear to me than ever that China has a plan to replace the United States. They're working at it every day to replace us economically, technologically, militarily, and diplomatically."
LaHood, a member of the House Ways and Means Committee, went on to highlight concerns on China's ascension into the World Trade Organization (WTO), failures to address their malign economic activity, and the need for U.S. leadership through trade in the Indo-Pacific. He added that whether it's siding with Putin in the war in Ukraine or deceitfulness over COVID-19 origins, China has failed to follow global rules and standards that every other country follows around the world to address global and generational challenges.
