PEORIA, IL – Congressman Darin LaHood (R-IL) held a meeting with his Veteran Advisory Board this Saturday to hear from Illinois veterans and discuss the impact COVID-19 is having on our veteran community. This was the tenth meeting that Congressman LaHood has held with his Veteran Advisory Board since being elected to Congress. The Board consists of over 25 members from various military branches, service organizations, local military providers, and non-profit organizations.
“We live in the greatest country in the world because of the brave men and women who serve our country in the military. Since joining Congress in 2015, my Veterans Advisory Board has provided an important platform to discuss issues that matter to Illinois veterans,” said Rep. LaHood. “Although the meeting was conducted virtually, we had a constructive conversation about the impact of COVID-19 on Illinois veterans, suicide prevention awareness, health care, and veterans’ services. As we respond to COVID-19 and get our country back to normal, I will continue to be a voice for Illinois veterans in Washington.”
Congressman LaHood was joined by special guests from both the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs to provide updates and answer questions.
The meeting also included a legislative update and district update from the Congressman, board member reports on issues and priorities as it relates to community care and scheduling appointments during the COVID-19 pandemic.
