PEORIA, IL — Congressman Darin LaHood (R-IL) announced today that the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) awarded $58,008 to the Peoria County Sheriff’s office and $201,173 to the City of Peoria from the Coronavirus Preparedness and Response Program. The funding was allocated by Congress in the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act.
"COVID—19 is putting an incredible strain on our communities in central and west-central Illinois,” said Rep. LaHood. “Through no fault of their own, our local cities and municipalities have lost significant revenue due to the coronavirus, and this important funding will help deliver relief for Peoria. I’ll continue to work with my colleagues to bolster our response to the coronavirus in Illinois and support those in need during this challenging time.”
The funding can be used for allowable projects and purchases that include, but are not limited to, overtime, equipment (including law enforcement and medical personal protective equipment), hiring, supplies (such as gloves, masks, sanitizer), training, travel expenses, and addressing the medical needs of inmates in state, local, and tribal prisons, jails, and detention centers.
Pursuant to the CARES Act, the Coronavirus Emergency Supplemental Funding (CESF) program provides $850 million to assist eligible states, local units of government, and tribes in preventing, preparing for and responding to the coronavirus. Additional information (e.g., permissible uses of funds, eligible entities) is included in the solicitation, which is available here: https://bja.ojp.gov/funding/opportunities/bja-2020-18553.
