FLORENCE, IL — Congressman Darin LaHood visited communities along the Illinois River today impacted by recent flooding. Rep. LaHood surveyed area along the river separating Pike and Scott Counties near Florence and also Meredosia in Morgan County. LaHood was joined by community leaders to assess the damage caused by flooding of the Illinois river.
“Over the last few weeks, communities in west-central Illinois have faced significant damage due to flooding along the Illinois river. I appreciated the opportunity to see firsthand the impact of the flooding and today’s visit underscored the challenges many in our rural communities are facing this spring,” stated Rep. LaHood. “I am grateful to the first responders who have worked tirelessly to assist those impacted by the flooding damage and I stand ready to work with IEMA, local officials, and my colleagues in Washington to ensure communities along the Illinois River have the necessary resources for recovery efforts.”
In Florence, Rep. LaHood was joined by the Scott-Pike County Farm Bureau President, Blake Roderick, the Scott County Emergency Management Director, Justin Daws, and several District Drainage leaders. The group toured damage along the Scott County side of the Florence Bridge and then surveyed flooding damage on the levee.
In Meredosia, Rep. LaHood was joined by Morgan County EMA Director, Phil McCarty, Meredosia Mayor David Werries, Morgan County Board officials and the US Army Corps of Engineers. The group toured the levee near Meredosia to survey the damage caused by flooding.
