Washington, D.C. — Congressman Darin LaHood has been appointed to serve on the Joint Economic Committee (JEC) for the 116th Congress by Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy. Following the announcement, Rep. LaHood released the following statement.
“Under Republican leadership, our economy has soared to new heights. Thanks to pro-growth tax reform, wages are up, unemployment is down, Main Street optimism is on the rise, and we have more job openings in this country than ever before,” stated Rep. LaHood. “In the 115th Congress, I was proud to be an advocate on the Joint Economic Committee for policies that strengthened our economy and it is an honor to once again be appointed to serve. I will continue to be a voice on the JEC for a pro-growth agenda that creates jobs and economic opportunity for hard working families across central and west-central Illinois.”
Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy added: “Darin has consistently made creating jobs for the people of Illinois a top priority, and I know he will do the same for the rest of the country on the JEC. His time on the House Ways and Means Committee also provides him with the experience and expertise to advise on the intersections of tax, trade, and regulatory policy.”
Rep. LaHood served on the Joint Economic Committee in the 115th Congress. This will be his second term on the JEC.
The Joint Economic Committee
The Joint Economic Committee (JEC) was created when Congress passed the Employment Act of 1946. Under this Act, Congress established two advisory panels: The President's Council of Economic Advisers (CEA) and the JEC. The primary role of the JEC is to review the economic conditions and to recommend improvements in economic policy. The JEC is currently chaired by Senator Mike Lee of Utah and is comprised of an equal number of Republicans and Democrats in both the House and the Senate.
