PEORIA, IL – Congressman Darin LaHood (IL-18) released the following statement today after the Vatican announced that Pope Francis approved the beatification of Archbishop Fulton Sheen.
“The announced beatification of Archbishop Fulton Sheen is welcome news for central Illinois and wonderful for our catholic community in Peoria,” said Rep. LaHood. “Archbishop Fulton Sheen’s legacy runs deep in central Illinois, and it is fitting that 100 years after his ordination he will be beatified in the Catholic Diocese of Peoria. I applaud Bishop Daniel Jenky and Archbishop Fulton Sheen’s family for their incredible efforts to see his body returned to Saint Mary’s Cathedral, and I am grateful to His Holiness Pope Francis for approving Sheen’s beatification. It is my hope that one day we will be able to celebrate Saint Fulton Sheen, of Peoria, Illinois.”
