This week, House Republicans rolled out the second piece of their new policy agenda, A Better Way, providing proactive strategies to address six of America’s most pressing issues. These policy proposals are the result of multiple Member-driven task forces set up by Speaker Paul Ryan. Today, Rep. Darin LaHood—a former Assistant U.S. Attorney with the U.S. Department of Justice and Chief Terrorism Prosecutor—released the following statement regarding the newly unveiled plan to strengthen national security and keep Americans safe:
“When it comes to terrorism, I know that there is no middle ground – either they win, or we win. The plan introduced by House Republicans is bold, smart, and proactive. Specifically, it provides a four-pronged approach: defeat the terrorists, protect our borders, tackle developing threats like cyber-attacks, and defend our freedoms by working with our allies to restore American influence. We must never again allow American soil to become a battleground, and in this technological age, that includes cyber-terrorism. Terrorists move at the speed of broadband and we cannot allow our country to move at the speed of bureaucrats. As Vice Chair of the Oversight Subcommittee of the Science, Space, and Technology Committee, I remain deeply concerned by how many cyber-attacks have been levied against our federal agencies and national security data. We must protect our information and infrastructure. Enacting policies like those included in this plan will secure federal government networks, and by extension, companies and families. National security and cyber security go hand in hand. America must be impenetrable on both fronts.”
