PEORIA — A Morton High School senior was the first-place winner of the 2016 Congressional Art Competition sponsored by U.S. Rep. Darin LaHood.
Elizabeth Grimm was one of six winners announced in a ceremony Monday at the Peoria Public Library at 107 NE Monroe St.
Grimm’s artwork, titled “Emma,” will be displayed in the Capitol in Washington, D.C. Grimm also will receive two tickets to travel to the National Art Reception in June in Washington, D.C., LaHood said in a news release.
The art competition is held each year to showcase the art and talent of the 18th Congressional District, according to the release.
The other winners announced at the ceremony were:
Second place: Kimberly Le, Richwoods High School in Peoria for “Tranquility,” which will be hung in LaHood’s office in Washington, D.C.
Third place: Kylee Hendrickson, Tremont High School for “Untitled,” which will be hung in one of LaHood’s district offices.
Fourth place: Mymoree Nimmers, Dunlap High School, for “Mr. Clandestine,” which will be hung in one of LaHood’s district offices.
Fifth place: A tie between Peter Rest of Washington Community High School for “Self Portrait” and Isabelle Rinald of Dunlap High School for “The Eyes Have It.” Their artwork will be hung in one of LaHood’s district offices.
