Washington, D.C. – Congressman Darin LaHood (IL-18) was appointed by House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy as a Core Conferee from the House Ways and Means Committee to the Conference Committee negotiating legislation related to China. Congressman LaHood released the following statement after the appointment.

"I am grateful to Leader McCarthy for my appointment to the Conference Committee," said Rep. LaHood. "China presents dynamic and growing challenges that impact the U.S. economy and our national security, which require strong action and thoughtful policy solutions. As a Core Conferee from the Ways and Means Committee, I look forward to working with Leader Brady and my colleagues to prioritize trade and economic policy that strengthens American competitiveness in international trade, protects Illinois agriculture, manufacturing, and small businesses, and addresses China's economic manipulation and statecraft."

LaHood also serves on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. He is a Co-Chair of the bipartisan U.S.-China Working Group, with Congressmen Rick Larsen (D-WA), and a member of the House Republican China Task Force.

The Conference Committee consists of members from both the House and Senate who will work to resolve differences between the House-passed H.R. 4521 and the Senate-passed S. 1260, two pieces of legislation that seek to address challenges presented by China and increase American competitiveness.
