Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Darin LaHood (IL-16) was reappointed by Speaker of the House Mike Johnson to continue serving on the House Select Committee on the Strategic Competition between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party (Select Committee on China) for the 119th Congress. This committee is vital in countering the increased aggression from the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and protecting U.S. interests in the Indo-Pacific region.

“China has a plan to replace the United States, and they are working at it every day,” said Rep. LaHood. “The Select Committee on China will work alongside the administration to ensure that the United States is well-positioned to respond to CCP aggression through strong, bipartisan policies. We must remain focused on strengthening our critical infrastructure, reinforcing our supply chains, bolstering our military, and promoting trade interests in the Indo-Pacific while continuing to be a world leader in advanced technology development. I thank Speaker Johnson for reappointing me to the committee, and I look forward to working with Chairman Moolenaar and my Republican and Democrat colleagues to counter the generational threat the CCP poses.”

“The Chinese Communist Party represents the most significant national and economic security threat of our time, and I am proud to continue leading the Select Committee as we build on the essential bipartisan work of the 118th Congress,” said Select Committee on China Chairman John Moolenaar (MI-02). “With the appointment of this exceptional group of members, we are strengthening our efforts to combat the CCP’s growing influence around the world and protect our freedom and way of life. I am grateful to Speaker Johnson for his support and partnership, and I am confident that, together, we will advance policies that keep the United States strong and secure as we confront China’s increasing challenges to our national security.”
