Washington, D.C. – Congressman Darin LaHood (IL-18) announced today that Nehal Tangudu, a senior at Normal Community High School, has won the Congressional App Challenge for the 18th Congressional District of Illinois in 2020. Nehal's project, the "Timeline of the Universe" was completed while taking classes from home due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“I am pleased to announce that Nehal Tangudu from Normal Community High School has won this year’s Congressional App Challenge for the 18th District of Illinois,” stated Rep. LaHood. “Not only did Nehal display exceptional coding and technical skills in his application, but Nehal's innovative design in the Timeline of the Universe went above and beyond expectations." “This year’s Challenge brought a variety of applicants from across central and west-central Illinois, and it was the most competitive competition we’ve had over the last four years. The Congressional App Challenge always presents an exciting opportunity for students to showcase their talent in the innovative technology field. Computer science and STEM education are critical to our nation’s long-term success, and I will continue to promote the importance of these programs through this Challenge and in Congress.”
