PEORIA, IL— Rep. Darin LaHood (IL-18) has announced the commencement of the 2017 Congressional Art Competition. Sixteen high schools from across the district will be showcasing artwork from Tuesday, April 4 through April 27 at the Peoria Public Library—Downtown branch, located at 107 N.E. Monroe Street. The library is open to the public Monday through Saturday from 9a.m. to 6 p.m. Artwork from some of the 2016 art competition will also be on display one last time.
“The Congressional Art Competition places the diversity of our nation on display, creating a mosaic of images that showcase communities across America. The winner of this competition will represent the 18th District of Illinois within the halls of our Capitol Building for elected officials, dignitaries, visitors, and constituents to enjoy,” stated Rep. LaHood. “I am thankful for this program and the opportunity to recognize and applaud artistic talent among youth here at home. I look forward to seeing the 18th District represented again among talent from across the nation.”
Since it began in 1982, the Congressional Art Competition has provided an opportunity for Members of Congress to encourage and recognize the artistic talents of their young constituents. Since then, more than 650,000 high school students have been involved with the nationwide competition.
