Washington, D.C.— Tonight, Congressman Darin LaHood attended President Trump’s address to a joint session of Congress. He released the following statement in response to the address:

“Tonight, I believe the President delivered a bold, optimistic, and serious speech, outlining his proposals to move our country forward in a united fashion and I believe the 18th District can benefit greatly on a number of the details the President defined tonight. Particularly, I am excited about his initiatives towards improving our nation’s infrastructure, by investing one trillion dollars to create thousands of jobs and opportunities, while improving our roads, bridges, and waterways. Additionally, I agreed with the proposals the President outlined in repealing and replacing Obamacare, by providing more competition, fighting high drug costs, not discriminating against pre-existing conditions, and creating more flexibility in Medicaid. Overall, I am hopeful after hearing the President’s ideas tonight. I look forward to our work ahead.

Finally, I was thankful for the recognition he gave our hometown American hero—Senior Chief William “Ryan” Owens—and his wife, Carryn Owens. We are indebted to his sacrifice and as the President stated tonight, ‘We will never forget Ryan.’”
