WASHINGTON – U.S. Rep. Darin LaHood, R-Peoria, is expressing disappointment in the announcements from FBI Director James Comey and Attorney General Loretta Lynch that former Secretary of State and presumptive Democratic Presidential nominee Hillary Clinton won’t be charged over her use of personal email to handle classified information.
“The reason why we have a grand jury process is for them to decide on whether there are criminal violations that occurred,” LaHood said. “That didn’t happen here.”
LaHood said Clinton may not be headed to court but she already faces added scrutiny in the court of public opinion. LaHood called Clinton’s actions as Secretary of State “disingenuous and – even worse — unethical.”
“There’s a different set of rules for people in the political elite or if you are a presidential nominee that’s different from people that are in the military or people that are just average people and that’s concerning to me,” LaHood said.
LaHood suggested Clinton may have benefited from a political double standard, referencing Bill Clinton’s secret meeting with Lynch last week.
