Congressman Darin LaHood did a quiet military medal presentation in his Peoria office Monday.

89-year-old James Anderson served in an Army infantry division during the Korean War. LaHood pinned the Silver Star on Anderson’s breast pocket. The congressman says it’s one of the best parts of his job, getting to honor the service of those who selflessly fought for the country.

“ We should also say that we have four other medals here that Mr. Anderson received for his heroic efforts during his time in Korea," LaHood said. "So it’s fitting that we honor you here today.”

Anderson, a Morton native, received the Silver Star for heroic combat action. He is credited with saving many lives during a firefight in September 1951. His comrades ran out of ammunition and had to retreat. Anderson continued to fight with only a rifle and hand grenades until they reloaded, returned and were able to defeat the enemy.
