Atlanta, IL – Congressman Darin LaHood (IL-18) and the Illinois Soybean Association (ISA) returned to Ron Kindred's farm in Atlanta to continue their "Life of a Soybean" video series, showing the process behind planting, growing, and harvesting soybeans. The video can be viewed here.
"It is great to be back on the farm with Ron to see how far the soybean plants have come since my first visit earlier this spring and discuss important issues facing Illinois soybean farmers," said Rep. LaHood. "Farmers in the 18th District work hard each year to produce some of the world’s best products, and it's important that elected officials in Washington work to empower those who feed and fuel our country. In Congress, I’ll continue to be a strong advocate for Illinois soybean producers on the Ways and Means Committee.”
The second video in this series showcases the progress the soybean plants have made since being planted. Ron and Congressman LaHood talk about infrastructure, biofuels, and other issues that directly affect Illinois farmers.
“The opportunity to connect once again with Congressman LaHood allowed us to discuss the need for investment and consider Illinois farmers stance on biodiesel and infrastructure. As farmers in Illinois, we often move our product through rivers, and the necessity of infrastructure modernization is vital to the success of our farms,” Kindred explained. “The soybeans we looked at today will be harvested in the next six weeks, and investments from Congress will allow us to continue producing a quality product in the future.”
Rep. LaHood serves on the Subcommittee on Trade for the Ways and Means Committee, the oldest committee in the House of Representatives. It has jurisdiction over tax measures, the management of public debt, trade and tariff laws, Social Security, Medicare, pensions, and many other economic growth measures.
